Comics where the math moves the story

Ahaboom makes branching comics for kids 9 to 12. In every episode the reader decides what happens next, and the plan only works if the math does.

Why we make Ahaboom

Plenty of kids will read a comic all evening and stall on a page of fractions. Practice usually comes as drills: a question, an answer, the next question. Nothing depends on getting it right.

We wanted the math to have a reason to be there. In a Ahaboom comic the hero needs it: to free a stuck gear, to split power between two machines, to choose which part of a tool to slice. Get it right and the plan works. Get it wrong and the story takes another turn, and Tally the robot explains what happened.

How we build every episode

A story first

Every episode is a real comic with characters, stakes and a cliffhanger. Kids should want to turn the page before they meet any math.

Choices that matter

At each turn the reader picks the plan. Different choices lead to different scenes and endings, so a second read is a different read.

Mistakes are part of the plot

A wrong answer never ends the story. It sends it somewhere else, and the reader can come back and try another way.

Why math, science and code

These subjects have answers you can check, which makes them a good fit for a story with consequences: the reader can see exactly why a plan worked or didn’t. Each series teaches one topic. SLICE! teaches fractions.

What we won’t do

The details are in our children’s privacy notice.

Where we are now

SLICE!, a fractions series, is our first. Episode 1 is free for everyone. RAMP (angles and shapes), MIX (ratios and percents), PUSH (forces and motion), FIZZ (matter and mixtures) and LOOP (logic and code) are in the works.
